Young Wild Explorers
Early Years Family Support

Young Wild Explorers! Outdoor Learning & Forest School for Families
For families who want to learn and grow together

Young Wild Explorers - Early Years Family Group

Wild Explorers is FREE for lower income families in Taunton, especially the Halcon, Lambrook and Lane and Priorswood areas.

We want to work with families who feel ready for some change. To get outside more, to get healthier, to find ways to get through life ups and downs. To give space to your children and to yourself so that you can grow together. And all outdoors.  Young Wild Explorers, Early Years Family group is a fully funded project and is FREE for families on lower incomes. This is for children under the age of 5 years old, to come to the woods and explore the natural world.  These sessions are based on the Forest School approach and each week will have lots of child lead play.

We run during term time only and each session we provide a free lunch and hot drinks for families on lower incomes. We can provide waterproofs for little ones and adults, along with wellies if needed. We will run in most weathers, although wind may cause us to cancel.

Each session is from 12 – 2pm , so enough time to get older ones from school, if needed.

We can provide free transport with pick-up points from St Michael's Church - Bishops Henderson,  Priorswood shops and Acorns Children's Centre, Halcon. Places are limited.

DATES 2026

15th May
12th & 26th June
10th July

(If you can afford to pay for treats and time outside, then look at some of our other projects or email us and ask what’s available.)

Our woodlands are home to roe deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels and other mammals. These carry ticks which can bite humans, so we recommend long trousers, proper shoes/boots and tops you can tuck in.  We will provide insect repellent to prevent them from biting.  Special attention needs to be paid to small children and in long grass/sedge.

If you get a tick bite, please read this leaflet before you remove it.
