We offer opportunities for teams of staff from businesses, agencies, charities, and departments to come to Young Wood to carry out volunteering activity.
This can be to fulfil CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) objectives, or simply to provide an opportunity for a team to spend time together away from work, doing something practical, worthwhile, and fun!
Our corporate volunteering days are focussed around looking after our beautiful woodland, and the tasks vary according to the season:
- In the late autumn, winter, and early spring your group will be helping with woodland management - coppicing, tree felling, hauling timber and clearing glades.
- In the spring, summer, and early autumn you might find yourselves scything glades, helping with a charcoal burn, or even counting orchids!
Participants do not need to have prior experience - we provide full instruction on using tools etc, from scratch. We can accommodate a group at any time of year, and each session is designed and tailored to the group’s needs. All activities ideally require a good level of fitness, but we can also accommodate those with lower fitness or mobility issues. Our site is equipped with a disabled compost loo and offers level access to our main camp.
The benefits from these volunteering sessions flow both ways - you will be helping make our woodland richer in wildlife and more accessible to all our participants, and you will go away with a warm glow, good memories, and the best sort of tiredness - from having done some good physical work in the outdoors!
Costs will vary according to the group and its preferences, but in general a day session (which includes staff supervision, hot drinks, tool introductions, H&S cover, and an introduction to the plants and wildlife you will encounter) will cost in the region of £32 per head, for a group of 12 volunteers.
