Thanks to the Somerset County Council Inclusion Team, we are offering very subsidised sessions in the holidays for Somerset families who have a child with a disability. That may be visible or diagnosed condition or impairment, or it may be hidden or hard to see. We think our sessions are most suitable for children aged 5-12 and their families and siblings. Being outdoors is especially good for those children who.... love to be outdoors! Those who like to explore, find their own way, make a mess, build things, be part of a gang, or alone. We will do our best to facilitate the play that is wanted - and sometimes that just means we get out of the way. We will (try) and start the session together, all around the campfire. Then we will explore a little - there is so much space! And play games, build dens, eat our packed lunches, make something on the campfire together, craft something to take home or just play on the swing. We finish all together around the campfire, and say thank you and goodbye. Our team is a mix of staff and volunteers, all DBS checked and who love the outdoors. They also make good tea and can find the best bugs or can help you find a book or guide to know the name of what you have found. When you book, it will help us to know more about likes/dislikes and abilities / disabilities. Our main camp area is fairly level, and works ok for wheelchair users if they can manage on woodchip / soft ground. We have an all ability compost loo. Any questions do email us before you book. We think these will book up quite quickly though! Our site has been adapted to make social distancing possible and we have lots of hand washing stations. As we are outside and have space, we will encourage everyone to make the most of their time and take appropriate risks. We have a Covid19 risk assessment. Other parents and carers have said to us "This is one place we can come with all the children and they all love it." "We feel safe here". "It's a place and time that I can feel relaxed". "It's a great YES space!" Research the_development_of_an_interdisciplinary_theoretical_framework_for_forest_school_in_the_united_kingdom.pdf |
