Team Days

Why would you bring your team to the woods?

Nature-connection, wellbeing and space to be
Life is changing fast and there is so much to keep up with. People are getting stressed by the challenges of the crises that seem to keep coming, and want to finds ways to be more connected with each other and this Earth we call home.

Does your team need some time out to be, think, do? To reflect, make and simply be? And perhaps to learn from some of humans oldest teachers, the plants?

Then come and make yourselves at home in the space we have crafted deep in the forest near Taunton. This is place where we can facilitate your team to be, to communicate in time-honoured ways, or to craft, walk and explore.

Then what are you waiting for...?

Team Days at Young Wood

Healthy teams need time together to create and maintain their bonds, hone their purpose and collaborate on real tasks.  Being in a wild, woodland setting with skilled facilitators can provide the space for different perspectives and views to emerge, away from everyday pressures.  Our approach is about connecting people with themselves and others through simply being in nature - we make the most of the natural environment as either the main stimulus or the backdrop for a session.

“It was a great away day, and I was struck by the incredible sense of peace and relaxation that I found while we sat around the fire in the woods”   (Health Worker)

"There is nothing running around my head now! Great not thinking about work"  (Housing Worker)

"It's been so good for morale, for the whole team" (Support Worker)

Our Team
The diverse mix of skills amongst our team encompasses group facilitation, bushcraft, natural systems, ecology and nature conservation, project development and strategy, participatory process, community development, rural arts, green woodworking, organisational development and wild food foraging.

Costs
Each session is tailored, so costings vary depending on your numbers, activities, preparation time and follow-up if that is needed; we aim to work within your available budget. We are non-profit making, so surplus income generated helps us cover our core costs and leads to more good work in the local area.

To give you an idea, a 9.30-3pm day with three of our staff running activities and leading on cooking lunch for ten-twelve people will cost from £750.

For all sessions we have at least two staff present for health and safety reasons.

The amount you pay helps us with our core costs, which are the unseen parts of running a small social enterprise that does good things for local people.

So by bringing your team to us, you help us pay ... the rent to Forestry England, get the accounts done, cover volunteering costs or replace tools for woodland management.

What we Offer

A session can be as low-key as a half-day team reflection workshop, or as challenging as an overnight wild camp experience - or somewhere in between.  Some teams need a simple session around the fire to relax with some greenwood whittling, whilst others need a more focused activity to help unpick difficulties or build new ways of working together.

The activities will reflect the needs of the group and the best process for getting to a desired end result.  These are some activities ...
  • Being in a circle as a group and experiencing deep listening of each other
  • Quiet time - taking time alone to listen, absorb and be
  • Reflections - our story; journey sticks; group timeline or map
  • Stories and creations - dyes and prints from plants, words into stories, making charcoal, sculpture and earth art
  • Collective cooking - using our camp kitchen to feed the team
  • Dens and shelters - shelter building; using knots, lashings and tarps; building a group ‘home’
  • Ecology - exploring the wild wood, exploring the ecology and systems of the forest and the group
  • Bushcraft skills - fire-lighting, from basic fire-steels to bow-drills; foraging and wild cooking
  • Nature and tracking - primitive map-making; tracking animals and learning about plants; tracking our team
  • Problem-solving - real-team tasks using natural metaphors as inspirations
  • Team games - sneaking and hiding, man-hunt, prey and predator
  • Using tools - whittling with knives; sawing and splitting; making objects together
  • Vision-making - collectively working up goals or visions for projects using a very structured process.
Thanks so much for today, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it - and they got a lot out of being together again.
Thank you for hosting our meeting yesterday, everyone had such a lovely time. We would like to book in another team day!
