Fungi Foray Sunday 10th Oct 2021 11.00am to 2.30pm Price: £25 per adult; £8 per child Location: Young Wood A chance to learn more about wild mushrooms in the woods - their ecology, classification, those you can eat, and those you certainly can't. You will learn about taking ways of identifying, how make spore prints, the deadly poisons, the easy-to-confuse and ideas for some good books that you may want to buy later. This session is only suitable for older children (8+) who can listen and learn along with the adults; there are not child-specific activities. If there are any we can collect we will, although most we will find in the woods will not be edibles. Led by expert mycologist Dr David Allen. David has been leading these walks in the woods every year for some time and really knows his stuff. NB This is NOT a forage for mushrooms to take home!
A practical skills and refresher course aimed at Forests School leaders and other outdoor leaders. (NOT suitable for complete beginners). Richard will be taking us through knife use, improving our ways of working, showing different knife holds, looking at ways of sharpening and ideas for things to make. We will come away with:

Wild Springtime Safari Sunday 2nd May 2021 11.00am to 3.00pm Price: £40 per person Location: Staple and Ruttersleigh Commons
An adventurous trek across the wilderness of Ruttersleigh and Staple Common, led by Gavin Saunders, to experience the rich landscape of ancient woodland, flowery glades and sparkling stream. Bluebells and other spring flowers, and fossils in the stream bed. A chance to lose yourself without getting lost!
Suitability: Adults and teenagers, no children under 12 please. This will be a strenuous walk over very uneven ground with steep slopes and natural hazards. Only suitable for the physically fit.

A Pilgrimage to the Ancient Oaks Sunday 23rd May 2021 11.00am to 3.00pm Price: £40 per person (adults or teenagers) Location: Young Wood, Wych Lodge and Piddle Wood
An adventurous trek starting from Young Wood, across the Wych valley to Piddle Wood, to visit the grove of Ancient Oaks there - medieval living monuments, and the oldest inhabitants of the Neroche Forest. Led by Gavin Saunders.

The Seven Orchid Safari Sunday 13th June 2021 11.00am to 3.00pm Price: £40 per person (adults or teenagers) Location: Young Wood and Wych Lodge
A journey around Young Wood and its environs to seek out as many as possible of the seven species of wild orchid which grow there, as well as the many other wildflowers of woodland, glade and meadow.
